May-June Pole Dancing Classes in Surrey

Hello!

Just thought I would drop by and let you know that there are some new pole dancing courses starting next week at all our Surrey venues :-)

If you're brand new to pole dancing... fear not our Beginner-level classes are designed for complete newcomers, and it's highly likely your classmates will be in the same boat wondering what on earth pole dancing is all about! We start off with the basics and the class ends with a short but impressive routine of the easy moves we've done in the hour.

Beginners courses are available next week at Kingston (Mon), Richmond (Tues), Epsom (Weds) & Guildford and Sutton (Thursdays). If you really don't know if it's your thing, just book Week 1, and sign up for the rest afterwards if you'd like to continue. Dates & Times are on our Calendar page.

Special Offer - if you know you're going to be away for some of the course, get £15 off the course fee. Just call or email before the start date of the course to arrange, as refunds aren't available for missed weeks once the course is underway - don't miss out ;-p.

If you've pole danced with us before ... hope to see you soon at a Level 2, 3 or 4-5 class. If there isn't a course happening at your chosen venue, please let me know as courses can be run on demand, as long as there's sufficient people up for it.

Special Offer - haven't been pole dancing for a while but want to get back into it?! There's a £15 course fee saving for anyone wanting to come back again if it's been over a year since your last lesson. Call or email before next week to arrange (you'll need the dates of your last course)

If you no longer wish to receive emails from us / got 2 by mistake, just follow the link at the bottom of this mail to take your name off the mail list.

Pole Dance TipsPole dancing at home? Grab the following to make life easier... 1. Towel to wipe the pole or your hands (makes such a difference)

2. Pen and paper to write down inspired combinations or ideas, or draw funny stickmen to remember the moves by

3. Mat or padding if you're trying out something upside down. Ideally have someone else there if it's extreme / new

4. Heels - heck, why not! ;-p

5. Mirror - check alignment, technique, how good it actually looks

6. Great music

7. Grip, using grip while you find your way into unfamiliar moves or build strength is NOT cheating. Use Gorilla Gold, Chalk, PVC Boots .... whatever makes it easier

8. A camera - put something up on Facebook later, use your pics to check progress so far

Spring Pole Dance Classes in Surrey: Timetable Now Available

Hello and Happy New Year!

As we are already into double figures in January, it's a good time to announce our new Timetable of pole dancing classes for the next few months.

Level 1 and Level 2 classes are now available with the option of either:
- booking a progressive 6 week block / course, or
- individual weeks as preferred.

If you're looking to book occasional weeks rather than a course, then as a guide, any of the first 3 weeks of classes will suit complete beginners to pole dancing - each week we will learn a new mini pole routine from scratch; weeks 4-6 will require previous experience, these would also be good as 'Refresher' lessons.

Mixed level Intermediate-Advanced level classes continue to be available at some venues either weekly or a block of six as before.

Places at Kingston, Richmond, Epsom, Guildford and Sutton are available to book online on the 'Timetable' page at the Poleminx website.

The Poleminx shop is now equipped with various products to make your poling life easier - from the poles themselves, to pole dance shoes, grip cloths and pole mats - check it out at the Poleminx online store.

Hope to meet you soon and introduce the amazing fun and benefits of pole dancing!

Kind regards
Elaine

NOVEMBER POLE CLINIC: HOW TO DO THE BASIC FIREMAN

The Fireman Spin is one of the first spins newcomers to pole dancing will probably learn as it's nice and easy and feels secure.

It's not too heavy on the upper arms as the legs are also keeping you on the pole, and squeezing in those abs will keep you upright and provide support to the rest of the body.

Here's a few tips on how to do a successful Basic Fireman Spin:

1. Sometimes it can be easier to start from a standing position, until you get the 'feel' of where everything is going. You won't get as big a spin as walking into it, but don't worry about that for now.

2. Standing with the pole in front of you, about a forearm's length away, grab your strong hand up high, and the other about chin-height.

3. Bend your opposite knee and push it into the pole on that side, so the pole contacts that 'grippy' part of your leg just above where the knee bends. It does not want to be right up near the thigh.

4. Either bounce off sideways in the direction of that leg (or allow yourself to 'fall' round in that direction if you want to take things more gently), allowing the other knee to come into the pole on the other side: so you have the pole squeezed between both legs, near the knees.

5. Allow yourself to spin round keeping your feet tucked up under you, so you can land on them easily when you reach the bottom.

6. When this starts to feel ok, try it again, except with the pole on your side this time (inside / stronger hand up high). Beginning with your outside foot, do two steps and on '3' bend your outside knee, swing it round and hop up sideways in that direction, aiming the grab the pole between both. Adjust your hand grip to allow yourself to continue spinning to the bottom (and don't forget the abs!)

Despite such a wordy set of instructions, this is quite an easy spin, the kind of thing we might do on a train on a Friday night back from London without even thinking about it ;-p

Trouble-shooting:

1. If it just feels 'wrong', and won't click, try it on the other side of the pole, sometimes it can work better with strong hand at bottom.

2. If you stop spinning before you reach the bottom, (i) relax your hands slightly; (ii) ditto knees; (iii) check you're not gripping on with your feet; (iv) put more energy into the steps and sideways push, for more momentum.

3. If you slide straight down with no grip whatsoever - roll your trousers up! ;-p

4. If you keep bashing your knees: slow down, take your time, use an Arnica based product for any resulting bruises.

5. It's tooo painful! In a way pole dancing feels like the most unnatural thing in the world when just starting out, but trust me, the body will get used to gripping on to cold metal, and soon enough you won't feel a thing :-)

6. Make sure you're pushing off sideways and never INTO the pole!

7. Check for good pole posture: abdominals engaged, shoulders down and never hunched up around the ears.

This is a great move for pole dance novices and it's a right buzz when you get that first spin round the pole :-)

What kind of things do you hope to get out of your pole dancing classes? How can we help you achieve them? (Email me, leave a message on Facebook, send a text..)

Thanks for reading!
xElaine
